How can I repurpose furniture for kitchen cabinets?

Wow Annette sounds like a challenge. I'm curious, what are your counters resting on if you don't have cabinets?

Either way your furniture pieces would have to fit in your designated spaces.

Probably chest of drawers would be easiest item to find to fit.

A Hutch would be highly functional in your kitchen. My sister has 2 hutches and two tall free standing cabinets. One for a pantry and the other for pots and pans and a whole bunch of other stuff. An eclectic look but fun and highly functional.

Pay careful attention to the height of your counters, unless you plan to replace them. As well, average furniture is not as deep as most kitchen counters. You might want to check for cabinets at Habitat for Humanity, or someplace like that. People do donate kitchen cabinets. I agree that a hutch or old breakfront are great If you have the wall space. Great storage. They also tend not to be as deep. So they take up less floor space.

go to the habitat restore to find dressers that are the correct size for your space or even base cabinets to fit. If you can find enough with matching doors, well and good, if not look for doors that can be made to look the same through the addition of trim. sand, prime and paint before installing. Add the countertop.

The Habitat restore has kitchen cabinets at reduced prices. My store has a large selection of a variety of sizes. You can mix and match and come up with the additional storage you need. If they dont all match paint them alike. Or uppers one color bases another for example. Hardest part will be transporting and hanging wall cabinets. Bases you can do by yourself. Good luck!

Or how about open shelving? I love this look, and no nothing will get greasy and dirty if you put the things you use the most every day on them. I have them in my kitchen and love them. They make the kitchen seem lighter and brighter! Posting some pics to give you an idea of the different types.

You may want to check habitat for humanity they may have a couple of cabinets you could use reasonably priced.
