Paint it? I would be careful though, make sure people know it is a delicate surface.

mirrors aren't meant to be sturdy...it's not like they are just glass. Bad idea.

  Being it's almost 40yrs. old and has no chips or cracks and is thick is this still a bad idea? It won't be used that much. Thanks for your reply Linda

You can paint a faux granite finish. It may make more sense to cut a round of wood to paint on rather than using the antique mirror.

Mirrors are too fragile to support the weight of granite.

Glass is softer than you'd think... as a table it's likely to scratch. Are you re-using the mirror frame? or the glass?
