I wanted a new look my old, dated, 1" white tiled bathroom floor. I did not have the the money to replace. So I decided to experiment.

Before
I purchased a can of Minwax oil based black wood stain and used a foam brush to paint it on the entire floor.
Next - I wasn't scared at this point.
Next, I used an old cloth to wipe off what I didn't want.
In hindsight I would do this floor in 4 sections. The stain is much easier to wipe off when it is not completely dry! But if it dries too quickly , you can spot a rag with lacquer thinner and wipe off the stain that way. This requires a little more elbow grease but it got the desired look I wanted!
I knew it would look great!
After the floor was completely dry, I waited a few days, I sealed the new look with some clear polyurethane.
I new love my new floor! The stain cost under $5.00. I had the polyurethane and lacquer thinner and elbow grease.

Brilliant! What made you think of using wood stain on tile?!? That never would have occurred to me. What is the resulting texture like? Do the tiles still feel slick- like unpainted tile??
