We bought a house that was built in 1915 and restored it to its former glory - taking all of it back in time ( except the kitchen which was only taken 1/2 way back!!) The upper floor bathroom was dark and ugly. BEFORE:

The 12 inch deep tub..
We demolished the old tub, and found out there were 2 layers of linoleum, and no insulation, so we we insulated...
and dry-walled,
forgot to include that I removed all the glue that was on the floor
and stained and re-varnished it when it was done.
lightly texture the walls and painted it all white
New sink and after the photos were taken we enclosed the pipe
and painted all exposed plumbing in waterproof white paint
New tub!
We spent about $1200 (Canadian) on the bathroom because we found a reject tub that had a flawed leg, since it was in the back I re-chromed it and didnt worry that it was not perfect.. and TADA- looked great!!

I have to admit I loved the old wooden paneling but you are right...it looks bright and cheery and you did a fantastic job. Throw an old afghan on that chair and I could move in!!
