My friend Michelle updated her guest bathroom with a little paint, shutters, and a creative shower curtain idea. This is how her guest bathroom looked when she bought her home. It is apparent she had to give it a fresh look and brighten its dreary appearance. The focus was on the sink or green cabinets.
The focus of the room was the sink or commode. It doesn't always take throwing lots of money at an update to make a room look nice.
She pondered the towel rack hooks and planned to use some old shutters here.
The cheapest way to update a bathroom is with paint and a new eye focus. Can you guess her favorite color? It was looking more cheerful already.
The cabinet doors and drawers were lightened to match the new shower curtain while the cabinet was painted purple like the walls. Don't worry, she tied it all together in such a clever and cheerful way.
Using the purple paint, she dipped the bottom of a water bottle to make flowers and stenciled the stems and butterflies a bluish teal, about the color of eucalyptus leaves.
Remember I told you she used an old shutter? Here she made it a towel rack with room to hang other items in the bathroom. The new paint on the shutter is the same as one of the paints used on the shower curtain. There you have the three main new colors.
The off white cupboard doors and shower curtain, the purple walls, and the bluish teal shutter and stencils all add a cheerful, bright feel to the guest bathroom. What an amazing transformation with a little paint and a personal creative touch. Now the eyes focus on the butterflies, flowers and shutters. The personal artistic touch on the curtain ties the room together.
She added one more touch, a bouquet of eucalyptus tied up in purple ribbon. Paint can often be found in the "oops" shelf of most stores that sell and mix paint. Our local Walmart even has paint people chose not to use. The store prices them for $3 to $5 a can to get rid of them. It is good paint! With a creative eye and some paint, anyone can update a bathroom for under $30.
And finally, some shelving to finish the decor. I love it.

I was so happy to see what you did with your shutter. I have two, and have been trying to think what to do with them.

I just redid my bathroom, but I'm doing this. Thanks
