Bathroom Remodel, Tight Budget, Big Bang.

After living with my disaster orginal bathroom for 3 years, i finally took the plunge and remolded it from top to bottom. I bought this 1952 ranch house 3 years ago, the bones are excellent, the layout was great, but everything was stuck in the 50's! I have been working in the rest of the house dreading this bath reno. But with summer coming on, a great vacation schedule and one awesome friend, I set a plan in motion, and i now have a safe and beautiful bathroom.
The original bathroom floor was caving in around the toilet. Besides bathing in this room, i never used it. When I finally decided this would be my next project, i started researching. I did a lot of research and hunting down products. Finally the big day came, 10 days ahead of the original start date.
Cracked and sinkingfloor
Orginal sink. Check out the medicine cabinet
And morepink.
Above are some before pictures of the bathroom. Day one we started at 6am, yes 6am! We tore out tile walls, flooring, the vanity and the toilet. I had previously demo'd the linen closet. All the floor joist were rotted underneath the original tile floors. By noon, we had completed the demolition, been to the dump twice and bought the new floor joist, plus new 3/4 plywood subflooring.
Day 2 &3 were spent installing electrical, plumbing and sheet rock. I did the happy dance when the new plugs were installed! The original bathroom did not have plugs! Days 4 and 5 walls were textured and the board and batten was put in.
After that my friend had to return to the real world. So for the next two weeks i painted the bathroom, and one of the dressers, i stained and varnished the 2nd dresser that was to become the vanity. And then my friend return to finishup the rest of the bathroom, namely my new walk in shower. We removed the last of the pink, the tub. And installed the shower pan kit. The next day we painted i n the shower with rubberized waterproof paint. Finally it was time to tile. Next day we grouted. And the last day we installed the floor, the vanity, toilet and linen closet dresser, plus shelves for the open linen closet.
There is still much to do. The little things that finish it out. I am currently saving for the lighting, i will be splurging on them as i fell in love with some expensive fixtures. I will be installing glass floating shelves above the toilet, when I get the glass cut down to size this weekend. And I will be installing a boarder around the shower to give it a polished look.
One last look at my vanity. It is over a 100 years old. The wood was beautiful, underneath the original ugly stain and veneer. I am currently on the hunt for a mirror, but for now this one will have to do. So what do you think? I'm so in love with the room, but first and foremost, i am grateful for a safe and sturdy floor/room.

We are in the middle of a bathroom reno. On your vanity, is the top sealed so the water won't ruin it? If so what did you use. By the way, you did an amazing job. It looks gorgeous!

It's beautiful! I'm so impressed. My husband was the carpenter in the family, and he's been gone for 20 years. Can't afford to hire anyone, but I'd love to paint my 1988 OAK VANITY. ahhh. Someday, I'll get around to it. Just afraid to get started. Good job!
