Easy Tile Job for Bathroom Floor

Easy
This is the slate floor that we installed ourselves. It involved no cutting because we used one inch squares in a 5 X 5 space in a traditional 5x8 bath. This is an easy first tiling project. We mixed our own grout, because premixed grout gets stuck in the pores of natural stone. The hardest part is removing and installing the toilet, but we needed a new one. We started tiling from the tub, laying the sheets out, removing tiles, and when we were done we covered the small gaps at the walls with baseboard. It is fairly simple and inexpensive. We bought enough product for the space and temporarily laid it out to see how it would work before starting. We used a level and a chalk line to keep it straight. When one buys tile on a sheet the product tells you where it can be installed that's how you know if you can use it on a floor. This would also be a fairly straightforward project with hexagons on a sheet. The hardest part is removing the grout from the surface of the tile, and it takes many washes with a sponge.

Did you have to put down a backer board sheet or something on the floor, before you laid the tile??
