How to Update a Builder Grade Mirror
In order to keep our bathroom renovation within budget, we set aside several pieces to update instead of replace. This include a basic, builder grade mirror in a mid-tone oak stain (you know, that early nineties stain).

Now, let's talk about how simple it is to take that mirror from builder grade oak to rustic beauty!
Step 1: First, sand off as much of the glossy finish as possible. Once sanded, wipe away the dust with a damp, clean cloth.
Step 2: Apply painters tape along the edges of the frame in order to protect the mirror during staining. Press the tape firmly to prevent seeping.
Step 3: Now, use a foam brush and rag to apply the dark stain. Apply stain with the brush, then wipe away with a rag. If it isn't dark enough, complete a second coat when the stain is dry.
Instead of yellow-ish oak, we have a deep, rustic, wood mirror the perfectly compliments our new vanity.
