How to create storage in TINY bathrooms

I have two small bathrooms, and really am looking for storage ideas that don’t make the room feel smaller. New construction, as you see from picture I have marbled it, and still don’t have the toilet or vanity installed.

Will the be enough space behind a toilet, you can put a shelf unit....

Over the toilet units are helpful. Recess a large medicine cabinet into the wall. Run a narrow shelf just below the ceiling. Add another shelf to your cupboard. Put a narrow shelf on the wall over your tub.

First of all, a lighter color on the walls would have helped. You can recess a medicine cabinet and an over the toilet cabinet. I'm assuming you plan on a pedestal sink, there are cabinets for under them. Here's a link to give you an idea what I'm talking about.

Here's what we did. Installed a surface mount medicine chest mirror, then built a custom cabinet with pigeon holes surrounding both sides and top of the medicine chest so it appears built in. My bathroom is only about 3'x4'....extremely tiny.

Maybe too simple, but a shower curtain with pockets would help

Try putting a glass shelf over your door. I put this in my small bathroom and used it to store towels and extra tp.

I’ve had to move around from place to place for half my life. I‘ve learned to make due with some pretty sad spaces. Some of my greatest pet peeves for a bathroom are a mirror instead a medicine cabinet, no linen closet, and no natural light. I‘ve put in shelves surrounding the mirror (for personal hygiene items), shelves over the toilet (for things that won’t fit in the mirror shelves and hand towels & wash cloths) racks on the door (to hang towels or robes), storage shelves over the door (for towels and extra toilet paper), shower caddies, shower towers, LED candles and the list goes on. My suggestion is to figure out your style and keep a measuring tape in your hand while you plan in the bathroom and shop, tackle one spot at a time, stick to the classics because trends are hard to match or coordonate and keep it minimal so it doesn’t ruin your hard work with clutter. I sure hope this helps!

The space behind the door has to be the most underutilized space in most bathrooms. You can build, since you are doing the work yourself a unit behind the door that can house towels, facecloths and other stuff stored in the bathroom. I would go floor to ceiling and make it a cubby style with possibly 8-12" cubbies square. A size that you can find premade baskets to slip into. Around the sink I would build a squared A shape in the exact same style but taking in consideration products used, hairspray bottles, make up bottles etc. You will need at least a 12" cubby for many products ladies use. Leaving space in the centre portion of the 'A' for a medicine chest or mirror. I love how most building stores have the narrow vanities with the sink that is a bit wider, doors don't tend to scuff the front of the sink...or you can take the door off and cut it down the centre and hinge both sides making french style doors opening out. You would have to reface the edge that you cut and add a second handle and hinges but it alleviates the space of a regular door opening in or out. Don't forget to use the space above the door for storage as well

I use shelves over the toilet , over the window and over the door. Am thinking about over the medicine cabinet but I just got done ship lapping my bathroom and i really don't want to ruin that look.

A vanity with storage and a matching cabinet over the toilet. That is what I have. If you can fit a 2nd matching cabinet anywhere, that is even better.

Start with replacing the door with a sliding Barn Door. (Doors take so much room)Then place a cabinet over the toilet. Then see what else you need. J Haymon

Floating shelves, and towel hooks are helpful. Anything left on the sink area, should be placed in a single basket, if possible.

Towel hooks instead of bars (don't stick out as far). I put an "L' shaped shelf over my door and window. It's white and since the ceiling is white it hardly shows. I put towels and baskets up top. I made niches inside the tub area. I have a cabinet over the toilet to hold toilet paper and there is a bar for the hand towel. I bought a 24" vanity which makes the space seem bigger. Plenty of storage up top and bottom. I also found some cute wire baskets. Going to be making a barn door type closure out of the existing bathroom door.

I used an over- the - door, 5 hooks, to hang curling irons, straighteners, etc. To keep them from clanging behind the door when open/close, I hung a purse long enough to catch the heaviest parts of the hair tools. Can still use the hooks for robes, etc.

It's hard to give advice without seeing photos of all four walls (door openings) we have a very small toilet area in our back entrance and I think I have maximized storage space. (the floor space which includes toilet is about 3' square. . . the ceiling is 9') Disregard the 'style' of the storage and decor. . . just notice the utility.

All good ideas. If you need more privacy you can put a sliding door cabinet over the door instead of an open shelf.
