My bathroom vanity is minuscule. A "master" bath and closet were put in the space that would just make a decent closet, or bath, but is way too small for both. The vanity has almost no counter space. I have tried different solutions in the past, but most require resting the vertical storage units on the floor or the vanity. There simply isn't space for most solutions, so I had to think outside the box.
This box was my inspiration: A corner tension (shower) caddy would meet many of my storage needs. It was vertical, with four baskets, and best of all, it would only take up about 1 square inch of counter space. I had picked it up for $3.99 at Goodwill a while back, even though I had one already in my shower. It was just too good a deal to pass up!
Of course, since this was designed to rest on the bottom of a shower or the corner of a tub, I had to cut down the bottom rod so that it would fit on the counter without punching a hole in my ceiling. I used a lightweight corded electrical cutting tool with a metal blade, but a hacksaw would work just as well.

Once it was set up and secure, I filled it with necessities that were cluttering my counter before. I would normally have just attached vertical shelving to the wall to the left of the vanity. Unfortunately, when the previous owners remodeled, they installed a pocket door between the bath and the minuscule closet. This made nailing or drilling into that wall impossible, because it would hit the door. However, I am enjoying the convenience of the vertical baskets very much!

What a simple, great idea. You could even dress it up with spray paint or maybe weave some colorful wide ribbon around the baskets. Thanks for the inspiration!
