The problem: my 5-yr-old granddaughter wants to be independent in the bathroom. But she is having trouble with the hard plastic lids on wipes boxes. Plus, the only place for the box is above the toilet which doesn't fit her or me. So, I decided to make a lighter-weight, easier to access box thumbtacked lower on the wall.
Tissue box, for now.
1. I chose a rectangular tissue box and removed the tissues to put in another box. From my stash of card stock, I chose this speckled beige paper.
Preparing the supplies.
2. I decided to go as simple as possible and use only scissors and transparent tape, no glue or elaborate embellishments. I cut a flap from the bottom of the box so I can refill it from the bottom. I started folding paper across the edges of the box so the paper would fit.
Looks like origami!
3. Above is a single sheet that wraps around most the flat planes of the box. When I was cutting it out, I decided to leave the top flap folded back for more stability. The paper goes about 2/3 of the way across the bottom, but I decided not to patch it. I did add two more strips of paper around the cellophane opening for more strength, and used lots of tape, but first . . .
Little trays for the ends
4. I folded little trays to cover the ends. These were taped on first, then the main cover. I made sure the little grand could open the tissue box to get to "her" wipes. I added even more tape to keep it all together and add a little waterproofing in some areas.
A touch of whimsey
5. Because this is mostly to please the little one, I added a little butterfly. I am working on a box that will be covered with these butterflies, I think, so the two pieces will coordinate.
Just a simple idea, to solve a simple problem. Maybe you can get an idea from this.
