I like to keep our house light and bright, so when we moved into a house that was all oak and brown paint, I could not change it fast enough! Our whole house gave off an “I was built in the 90s” vibe. Some things I have accepted that I cannot change until we undergo a big renovation, however there are other things that are fairly quick fixes, that I can do myself that, to me, make the space so much more pleasing!
Let’s take a look at how this upstairs bathroom looked on the day we moved in:
It definitely wasn’t terrible, but like I said, I felt there were small updates we could do ourselves to make the room more our style.
I started by using left over paint for the walls we had from updating our daughter’s room and painted the window trim white.
The paint on the walls was a good start, but I definitely was not feeling done with the room yet.   I decided to paint the vanity white, to freshen the room up even more.
I started by removing all the cabinet doors.  I cleaned the doors and the cabinet frame first with  Krud Kutter.
Once I was done cleaning, I did a light sand over the cabinet frame and doors.  I then wiped the dust off with a damp cloth, and then again with a dry cloth.
I was able to get away with one coat of primer on everything.
After I finished priming, I gave everything 2 coats of paint.
The bathroom was coming along nicely, but I still felt like the fixture needed to go.  I found  this one on Amazon and decided to give it a try.
I added a floating shelf, some simple artwork, and plain white towels to finish off the look.   Our main expense was the light fixture that came in right around $70.  I added a few accessories, but since we had the left over paint, the price tag for the entire makeover came in under $100!
