The bathroom tiles are outdated and I'd like to give it a fresh new look, without the work, mess and aggravation of removing the old tiles. Any ideas on how to give the bathrooms an updated look?

You can not tile over the existing tiles. Cement and grout will not adhere to the surface. You can remove the grout using an oscillating tool with a grout bit and regrout or if the grout is in good condition you can clean and recolor the grout by having a professional do it or kits are available in the big box stores.

•To tile over tiles, can it be done?...Well in most cases it cant,& for reasons tradies will give you a list so long that it will give one a brain ache... Yes if the house is a very old house,& from how i have seen it done, by licenced personnel, it will hold for years though if you ever want to remove then that becomes a very different story. What i watch amazed me several years ago; the house is still sound & happy til this day... Let me try & explain.... Firstly the tiles that were there were sanded with a small electic sander (masks & other safety equipment were used, so dust doesn't go all over the place. )After that was done it was simply washed, very well with Bi-carb soda & rock salt,( 3/4 bi-carb), then left a day to dry; though it must be dried properly so you might want to consider another day or two. Then the remarkable thing was a sheet of very thick black plastic was glued using bathroom products,& the strongest glue to as the smell was quite over powering... Let dry properly again(you must decide on the time for your old bathroom floor;i always say if you feel a little doubt then wait another day for this was not a hurried project.) After all this then the appropiate cement was laid, left to dry, then one more coat as thats when the tiles were getting done.. The difference i did notice was the tiles were put together a fraction closer than normal, i'm not sure to why but i believe its part of keeping it to last longer... What makes the completion different is that i saw a car paint being used to colour the inbetween sections, not other products. I watched this in awe being a proffessional Artist as the tradie was doing it by hand,& without taping but you choose whats best for your skills...., i found this worth noting in my books of interestingly different jobs,& kept the address to ask the owners if i may visit later down the track to see, to which i previously explained i did,& all looks beautiful. • One thing, your floor will be raised, this should be taken note for many obvious reasons, especially for disability persons in wheel chairs but then again all depends on the house...I do know by the tradies that this method can only be done to old houses with good structures. I hope this might be a different insight that may be of use.. only kindest thoughts M.®

D’Sapone can make your bathroom look new again without replacing the tile and grout. We will clean your surface with Imperia, eliminating all the mold, mildew, soap scum, etching and stains. Then, we will color seal the grout with Caponi – a 2 part pigmented titanium resin, preventing stains and mold from taking place. At the end, we will polish your tile with Celine, which is a clear resin solvent topical sealer. It adds a tremendous elegance to the surface.
