Color scheme?

Heather
by Heather
So I am in the middle of redecorating our guest bath. The color scheme started out with browns and golds but I bought a shower curtain that is taupe-ish and gray-is (its has a white background with those colors in the shapes of whimsical flowers and plants)... i dont hate it all together but I want some honest, yet contructive feedback (because my huaband just says it looks "fine") are those colors in a palette that work or is that clashing too much?

Is there anyway you can post a photo of this shower curtain? When it comes to shades and colors it's better to be visual then verbal so you can get correct and honest feed back.

brown and gold - taupes and greys. . . 2 completely different palettes. I honestly can't come up with a color to tie them all in and I'm pretty good with color. Are you locked into brown and gold? If not, I'd suggest painting the walls a few shades lighter - but same hue of the grey in the shower curtain. . . If that doesn't work stop beating yourself up and simply return the shower curtain for a different one?

Taupe & grey are hot colors right now. Because they are both neutrals you can pair any color with them. With that said I'd lose the brown because it is too close in shade to them. Yellow & white are popular colors to use with taupe & grey. If you want more pop orange would be pretty, too. :)

Go to your local big box paint/hardware store and pick out some paint samples of the colors you have. You can bring the curtain into the store to help match color. Then go pick out some 'pop' colors, like redish-orange, greens of different hews, yellows and so on until you get a nice supply of samples. Also, ask the paint-person that works there to suggest what colors will work with the colors you now have (samples in hand). .this will also give you an excuse to take a few more. Put a check mark on the colors the clerks picks out for you and then add colors couple shades darker and lighter in each color. You can tell more when you get those samples home because the light in your bath is different from what is in the store. I can think of several colors that will work but one can't pick out a color for someone else. . .pick out what you love from your samples and enjoy your new bathroom. . . . .:)

On your question, I am not a fan of browns with gold so this is difficult for me. I think if the brown is the right "tone/shade" (warm or cool) to go with the taupe & gray it might be okay. I would NEVER ask my husband what he thought colorwise - ha ha ha. More than once I have had to tell him "if you are wearing that I am not going" (once it was golden tan pants with a very bright red shirt) and he is not even colorblind per se. Now I buy most of his clothes so he doesn't get a chance to do stuff like that any more;)

Think to be happy you should either return the shower curtain, or redo the brown and gold theme.
