Put something on the walls like a poem, a home made embroidered work, or a plaque with a saying, (like Frost's poem on Two Roads....in woods...) then do the curtain with trees, the towels to match the curtain, and green trash can.......for example....you know your favorite things maybe the sea shore or whatever it is you esp. enjoy make it the theme. A room may be small but it can still have your personality or family heritage in it. We like western things so I put in a moose towel rack, brown rug, and matching curtains. You can even lay a small hand towel on the toilet tank. I added an embroidered brown bear by the mirror/sink to our western small bathroom. Hope this gives you some ideas. If you don't have a mirror in there, that would brighten it up and lighten it up also. You could even decorate it on the edges like a frame such as if you had a seashore theme add some shells glued to the frame of the mirror etc.
Hang pictures, curtains, paint an interesting pattern. Is there room for a small shelf where you can store toilet tissue and similar items? It would also serve as a rest for magazines, purses, etc.

Try putting in a small narrow table with a vase or hang a picture on the wall. It's hard to help without seeing the room.
