This carpet and mustard color has to go!! I am planning on ripping out the carpet (yes carpet in a bathroom), vanity that is 63" long with one sink, and replacing the ugly toilet with a white toilet. I thought about shortening the vanity down to 48" but still not sure what I would use the open space for. Im either going to paint the tub white or have bath fitters come and put a new tub over it. Anyone have any idea what do to this bathroom. I have been searching several sites for color schemes and layouts but I just cant find what I am looking for. I want gray walls so either a white vanity w/ gray sink or gray vanity with white sink...but then i dont know what to do with flooring color. OOO please help me!!

  • I once had a white floor in a bathroom and found it hard to keep clean. I'd go with a gray floor. The gray/white combination for the sink and vanity are neutral enough so, if at a later date you want to change your color scheme, you can do it with just towels and accessories. I hope that helps!

Hello! If you decide to shorten the length of your vanity you can use the space for a small bookshelf or open cabinet to store towels, toilet paper, etc. I have a gray vanity with a white sink. Love it! The flooring can be white or some plank flooring in a wood tone that picks up the gray from the vanity.

I have grey ceramic tile (that looks like plank) in my bathroom & love it!

I also "had" a white floor and after a few years of fighting the constant stains I replaced it with a vinyl floor with a gray pattern. I would go with a gray textured vanity and a white sink. The nice thing about gray texture is that there is white flecks in it so the sink won't look out of place or like an after thought.

The gray texture would also go great with most shades of gray when you paint the walls.

I would consider some type of storage over the toilet, a mirror above the sink, perhaps some new lighting fixtures.

We are currently doing a bathroom renovation and decided to use vinyl planks that look like stone tile as they are softer, warmer, and easier to install than real ceramic tile. There is enough variety of choices that you will find something to tie your vanity/sink/wall colors together. It seems like you will free up about 15 inches on either side of your vanity by downsizing it (assuming you keep the plumbing where it is). You could add a half wall to hide the toilet and still pick up some extra room on that side of the toilet. Do you have enough cabinet storage? if not, you could now build a closet or open shelves into the wall space opened up on the other side of the vanity.

They planks we purchased are the latest generation of waterproof planks from Mannington, but I would hesitate to use the term "waterproof" for any plank flooring other than ceramic tile. It's just my wife and me in the house now, so no children who might be making a mess while taking a bath.

Go with the wood look for the flooring. It will work no matter what you use for your colors.

Hi Lil, the bathfitter is an excellent idea, well worth it! They even include a curved shower rod. We had it done 3 years ago and it is still just like new!! as for the vanity, I would keep the long one, you could add a 2 sink dealie in, and then still have the storage under them. do the the walls in a gray, it will match many colors, shower curtains can be changed out to make different looks. Do the floor in a gray as well, again because it is neutral. Hope this helps you a bit

I think it would look great painted a dark gray. Be careful when you choose gray, because it can have an underlying color such as purple. I learned the hard way and had to repaint. I like the grays with brown or blue undertones especially for a bathroom.

If you decide to paint your vanity measure the top. Home Depot will get custom sizes if needed. I think your best bet for the shower is to get it refitted. Home Depot and Lowes also offers that service. So does Floors for Living if you want tile. I got my bathroom shower redone by them with gray and white porcelain tile and it looks great. My tile matches the shower, but I think a gray tweed tile would look good. God to Floor and Decor to check out tile options they have tons.

Gray and white is a staple color. I would paint the walls light gray and remove the wallpaper or paint over it. Maybe stencil the back wall if you are so inclined. If you do not want lots of color, gray, silver and black go great together. A nice chrome faucet would look great as well as a new mirror. Or at least frame your mirror. Kirklands and Home Goods have nice inexpensive mirrors.

Home Depot and Lowes offers that service as well. If you want tile, go to Floors for Living, they did an excellent job on my shower. For flooring go with a non slip tile in a grayis tweed. Go to Floor and Decor to look for options. If you have a Habitat for Humanity or a builders Surplus in your area they are great places to look as well as the prices are really cheap.

Then get some nice towels. Let us know how it turns out.

You've received lots of great ideas but I'll chime in as well. I'd advise against a solid white floor. It may drive you nuts because each little piece of towel lint, etc. will show up constantly. The good quality vinyl plank is a great idea and is offered in a soft grey driftwood color and very nice looking. You could work off of that planking to select lighter color grey paint. I'd suggest the replacement sink be white in color and use the greys you want in paint for walls and cabinetry.
