I am your age and I recently got a new curtain for the window, new rug and towels to match and a shower curtain that is white like the sheer curtains.. I put a plant on a stand near the window, and on the vanity, I have a lamp which I use for a night light , plus a pretty metal basket filled with different colored grapes. On the back of the stool I have a towel which matches the rest and a box of kleenex. The walls in the bathroom are white on the bottom and greige on the top so didn't have to change those. I hung one of my favorite pictures behind the stool.

I hear you when you want to cheer up your rooms...I just did a little shuffling of furniture this morning in the living room.....we all need a little change and cheering up in our house now and then, I think. Fun to shop in our house...just rearrange....and doesn't cost a thing. May have to use those furniture sliders...miracle things to use and inexpensive and reusable.

Oh thank you but my bathroom is teeny, tiny and in a mobile home..no room for a table or a chair...very basic and very blah...

    Paint the bathroom yellow.

Good for you Roz. It's great to think you are so keen at 82. I don't know how fit you are but there are several things you could do to cheer up your little space.

You might try some nice Peel and Stick tiles and do just a few around the wc. There are literally hundreds of designs online. Or how about something very easy? Look for a very small table in a thrift store, or Walmart and spray paint it. If you put a lace cloth on top, also at Walmart, add a nice vase full of flowers (not plastic, please), and maybe a perfumed candle I think that would be very welcoming.

Give us some more details about your bathroom, Roz, then we can help a bit more. If you already have a table or such a beautiful bouquet of flowers (fake or real) would do a lot. You could make a grapevine wreath with flowers, leaves etc. Window? Some cheery curtains. You could buy or make a rug. Lots of things you can do.... tell us more!

Replacing your existing light fixtures with ones that are either LED integrated (no lightbulbs) or with updated designs with LED lightbulbs is one of the fastest ways to 'lighten up' and 'brighten up' any room, even a small WC.

Incandescent lights give off a yellowish hue, and over time, any fixtures with plastic components will have become discoloured by time and heat. LED light is clear without shadows. They can make the space appear dingy.

Treating yourself to new bright towels in your favourite colour or pattern is another way to quickly and instantly inject 'cheerfulness' into any bathroom without involving any construction or mess.

Maybe you could add a pretty non-slip toilet lid cover & rug. If you don't already have one, perhaps also add a cute figurine nite-light

Here's some possible choices. I hope this helps out.

If you can't paint or get help painting, Just buy some cheery colored towels and maybe a mat and shower curtain. Put something cute on the back of the toilet tank. Tuesday Morning and Kirkland's has some cute nick nacks
