How do undermounted sinks in Formica countertops hold up?
I am looking at buying a Wilsonart laminate countertop with an acrylic kitchen sink undermounted by the manufacturer. Has anyone had one of these installations for a few years? How did it hold up?

I have an undermount stainless sink in granite and it has held up fine for over 10 yrs now but with all undermount sinks you have to replace the silicone grout at times
Hi Deb, I've not had personal experience with formica/laminate and an undermount sink but this article seems to suggest there shouldn't be an issue IF the correct adhesives are used. I hope the article helps to alleviate any fears you may have about the combination.

The only real issue is water could weaken the laminate. However, if your installer is reputable and experienced you shouldn't have any issue. https://www.formica.com/en-ca/articles/home-design/laminate-countertops-love-undermount-sinks
There is a problem with undermount sinks in laminate countertops. It's not like mounting to a solid countertop like granite, marble, quartz, or solid surface. The weight of the sink on the particle board substrate. The sink really wouldn't be undermounted but flush with the top. The sink flange is actually about 3/4" below the top so it the sink edges are flush with the countertop surface covering the particle board edges. Sealing the countertop edges with the sink uses specialized adhesives to prevent moisture from deteriorating the particle board. Caulk will not work. Get advice from where you plan to buy the countertop and sink.
We did an undermount sink with butcher block and love the results.
Good question. Personally I have only had stainless steel sinks and they have been no problem. I hope someone can speak about the acrylic varieties …I do not care for the cultured marble bathroom ones ……personally.
Hope this helps! I have had both. Caulking needs to be maintained.

My mom has a stainless steel undermount in her home with a laminate counter top. Its 20 years old so I've had to recaulk it for her once but otherwise it still looks pretty good!
You need to use the proper braces and sealants. Especially on the top of the sink where water can penetrate. Someone at Home Depot and Lowes can help you with these issues. It's all in the install.
Thank you all.
The sinks are glued in then mounted with clips the same way they are mounted with granit
