How do you change this 1950's tile? Paint? Tile? Total removal?

If you have limited budget and the tiles are in good shape why not prime and paint the tiles? Clean the tiles with TSP, prime with Kilz2, then paint with bathroom enamel paint. It will save you a lot of money and change up the entire look of the room. You CAN do it! Best of luck.

you could use self adhesive Tiles as a Band along the line of the toilet roll holder. or use randomly.............

I had the same pink tile in bathroom, no pro but decided to paint over with kilz and then latex wall paint, then put 15 sealer on top. Has held up for some 15 years so far.

That first no. 15 was typing error.

I had same in my bathroom. Not only was it back dated, our town homes built 1974 it was installed wrong. It all came out.

Don't remove it. There is a tile paint at Sherwin Williams made especially for painting tiles like this. I did this in my bathroom and painted them white, and they looked beautiful, you couldn't see the paint brush marks and it was a tile like finish when done. This is a lot cheaper than replacing them.

Easiest is to paint it with epoxy paint, using Rustoleum or Homex Tub & Tile paint, or for a custom color.... http://www.klasskote.com/epoxy_bathtub_paint prep is everything, so do your prep right.

I agree with Sharon. Rustoleum Tub & Tile Epoxy is awesome. I used it on my own pink tiled bathroom walls and pink tub. Each kit at Home Depot is around $30. I bought two for my bathroom size. Looks like a brand new bathroom! Good luck.

I painted my bathroom tiles too. I used a Nippon product call Nippon Recoatable Finish. Basically it's epoxy paint, comes in 4 liters of paint and 1 liter of hardener. You have to mix the 2 together and you get the epoxy paint. My tiles were matte and rough, so I skipped the primer part. But i see that yours are glazed. You would need a primer before the epoxy. The complimentary primer to the Nippon Recoatable is Hycote 51wt also by Nippon. I also stenciled my floor and the outcome was pretty nice. I covered mine with beadboard. Use a ton of construction adhesive.

Hi! All good suggestions. If you really hate it, then it would be worth the time and trouble of replacing it. I think pink bathrooms get a bad rap because there is just so much of it. Even the floor! I have personally used the Rustoleum kit to redo a sink and the stuff is great. I actually found it for less than $25 on Amazon, and didn't even use half of it. It does have a strong odor, so you need good ventilation while using it. But, after following directions, I can tell you that it dries hard and durable. Good luck!
