How do you take off a soffit in shower?

    With a sledge hammer. But why, we are always adding them. Holds in the warmth and steam. Let's the exhaust fan work better. Protects the walls and ceiling in rest of bath.

    First you will need to see what is inside the soffit. Cut a 4" square hole in the front. Use a flashlight and see if there are any pipes, ducts, or electrical wires running through it. You can patch the hole if there are. Some soffits are just there. Some are built before the walls a ceiling are finished and open to an attic space with insulation. Some are built after the walls and ceiling are up. If yours can be removed you remove the drywall/cement board off the soffit framework then cut and remove the framework. Patch any openings with drywall.
