How to cover gap hole behind toilet hose escuutcheon

The escutcheon is supposed to cover the hole. If it's too big to be covered or bothers you, use some caulk to cover it. Anything that will create a solid seal can pop out or be noisy as the pipe expands and contracts from temp changes.

I would suggest that you purchase an larger, or oversized escutcheon plate cover. These come in different shapes and finishes. The last two examples below are split flange styles, which expidite installation.

You can put the putty in and then get a little cap thing to cover it

Utilizing the large metal cover will work. I would seal around it with either putty or grout to fill in the space first.

Hi, Thank you for the replies. This is what I first did. I used 100% silicone GE 30 min water-ready caulk . Amazon.com: GE Supreme 100% Silicone 30 Min. Water-Ready caulk, 2.8 oz tube, White: Home Improvement. I had it on for a week and it never dried. though the area was bone dry. I wondered if it was because the gap had no backing for this to stick to.. So I scraped off the wet goo and before I go to the next step, I wanted to ask for help. The tile guy is long gone. A neighbor gave me Durhams Water putty. It seems ok, but I did not want to try another.. DIY that will fail. I know I can buy the bigger escutcheon plate covers. This means I must get a cutter to cut off the existing one and then get a larger split cover to go over it. I can;'t afford to hire anyone, so If thought I could figure it out myself. I am in a condo stack and have a condo below me. I do not want to worry water will get into their ceiling so I need to adddress this soon,

Use a silicone sealer to do this job!

The foam insulation is messy to use, but when it dries it can be cut off with a knife. Make sure you use gloves. I found out the hard way that you need GLOVES
