How to redo my bathroom after 30 years?

Small, maybe a little bit country. Simply and not very expensive. Never done anything like this..

New faucet, new tub handles, new vanity door pull, newer light fixture with LED bulbs that have a "soft white" appearance: colorful bath linens, photos, glass or wooden shelving are all options available to you.
Note that Moen corporation has an excellent reputation for customer service. You can view their products at Moen.com. Anoher good option is Delta.com.
Research before purchasing. Some have plastic parts while others use ceramic discs (longer lasting). Some offer finishes to reduce water spots.
Painting the walls can do amazing things to make the bathroom, or any room look better. You might be surprised that painting the walls and perhaps the vanity, and doing a few of the things that Oliva mentioned may be all that you need to have a totally new looking bathroom!
Paint the walls.
Change out the fixtures.
Update the hardware by replacing or painting.
Add some rustic shelves.
Change out towels, window treatments, and shower curtain for something in the new decor theme.
You can paint tile now as well!
