I want to change my 20 year old, aluminum rimmed glass shower doors.

Question

How difficult is it?  Will the screw holes down each side and the bottom be hard to patch?  Will the tub surround be discolored?  Has anyone done this?

My friend has a glass shop and installs custom showers. He mixes a bit of tile dust into a mortar patch and fills the holes aiming to make them of similar color.

Why not just remove them and replace them with an eye-catching fabric shower curtain on a tension rod?

I took my gold trimmed shower door out side, I put paper over the parts I didn't want to paint and taped it, than I sand them a little bit and spray painted them with bronze spray paint for metal, they look like new and I have had them for about 4 years, you could use any color paint you wanted, even white would be pretty, good luck with whatever you decide

I was going to suggest you just paint what you have. Rustoleum makes several different spray metal pants! You could even use a color and coordinate your bathroom. A black in a while bathroom would be beautiful...then paint the vanity flat black...add a shelf with a black vase with a red silk flower! If you want super nice glass doors, let the professional give you some advice!

Yes, I have done it. It's very easy once you get the screw driver. Sometimes the screws are hard to remove. Be careful not to strip the screw head. I took out mine and replaced it with and one. I took my girlfriends out and it was very easy to patch the holes and put up a shower curtain.
