Declutter and paint. A new faucet and matching towel bars. Even a new shower curtain and matching towels/rug can do wonders. Paint vanity, replace top of vanity. Change lighting, Try something inexpensive first and see how you like it. See what you have in your house and if you could repurpose it. Check the clearance sections. Best wishes!

Buy a gallon of latex paint in a color you like in the darkest shade on the color swatch. Choose color that coordinates with your existing tile. Also buy a quart of white paint. Paint the bath vanity two coats of the chosen color. When you are done, dip out a few ounces of this color out of your paint can and put it in a small jar with a tight lid or a pill bottle, label it "vanity". Add about 1/2 of the white paint to the remaining paint in the gallon can and mix thoroughly, paint your walls with this color. After you are done, save a few ounces of this shade in another jar or pill bottle. Add about 1/2 cup of the white to paint remaining in your gallon can. Mix thoroughly and paint any wooden accessories or picture frames of art you plan to use in the room. After you are done reserve a couple of ounces in a 3rd jar or pill bottle and label it "accessories". Add another 1/2 cup (or more) of the white paint to the gallon container and paint the room trim and baseboards in this color. Save remaining paint in a jar labeled "trim". Buy white bath mats, towels and a shower curtain. Switch out glass accessories such as drinking glasses, toothbrush cups, etc. to white or clear glass. The paint you have reserved of in the four containers is for future minor touch ups. If your room is large enough that you don't think one gallon of paint is enough to paint everything, then buy an extra gallon (or two) of your chosen color and mix them all together in a 5 gallon can before you start and increase the amount of white paint you add each time proportionally. By keeping all your colors monochromatic the room will appear larger. If you prefer, you can buy separate contains for four different shades on a color swatch but it will be more expense. I find adding some white in steps as you go much more practical.

Paint, mirrors and recess your medicine cabinet (if you have one).

I have also seen folks with small bathrooms recess a bookshelf that they use for storage. In a small bathroom even gaining a few inches here and there makes a big difference.

Consider an over the toilet shelf of some sort this is usually wasted or unused space.

And over the door plastic storage adds too (the kind people generally use to store shoes in). You can store anything you want in those individual compartments.

  • New shower curtains are the best way to define a new look. Even if you have glass doors you can put a tension rod over them to hang one.
