Replacing A Standard Tub With A Walk-In Shower

Louise
by Louise
We are considering replacing our standard tub with a walk-in shower, mainly because we are both getting up there in age, and have a little hard time getting in and out of the bathtub. Any pros and/or cons on these showers? Will appreciate any and all answers. Thank you so much.

We did this replacement 2 years ago and I love it. I had 3 back surgeries and stepping over the tub had become difficult. W found a 60 inch shower that fit our old tub space perfectly. The one thing I would mention is to go with a better quality shower since it would be easier to skimp on toilet or vanity since they are easier to replace. Our shower has a finish that is easy to clean and has held up well. Hope you enjoy.

@Roxanne Thank you so much. I also have a back back and husband has knee problem, so getting in and out of the tub is getting very difficult. We will probably go with the walk in shower. I appreciate your input.

Walk in showers are great options as we age, you can also when the time comes, put a shower chair in the shower or have one built in.

We did that last spring as part of a complete bathroom reno. It's beautiful and functional. Real estate agents used to say that it could affect re-sale, but most young people shower these days. It could be an issue for a family with young children who are not yet old enough to shower. When you do this take the opportunity to also install grab bars as you will have access to the studs during the reno.

We are also going to this conversion. Going to turn the curren conventional separate shower stall into a linen closet and replace the tub with a shower unit with options. Basically remodeling the entire master bath. Would like your input on excellent tube replacement shower brands. Hope you folks can help.

We did this 6 yeasr ago and love it! One thing we did, we put the shower head at one end and the controls at the other. Now I can adjust the temp without getting wet. Our children laughed but 2 have now done this. Agree, buy the biggest best you can afford.

Thanks to everyone that answered my question. We decided to just leave that bathroom alone, with the tub in it, and had an entire new bath built off or our bedroom, getting rid of the half bath in there. Contractors are finishing up today, and we are sure we are going to love it.
