How to Move a Cast Iron Bathtub With Just 2 People

I chose a beautiful & classic white cast iron bathtub for our boys bathroom remodel. The only thing I didn’t realize going in was how HEAVY a cast iron tub was. I also had not thought about how the heck we were going to get it from our garage upstairs to the 2nd floor of our farmhouse. Today I am sharing how we moved it with just 2 people.

Moving the Bathtub from the Garage

Soon after our beautiful cast iron bathtub was delivered we realized there was NO way we could carry the tub up on our own. After calling a few moving companies & 1 company quoting us $800 for the job we knew we were on our own. We put our tub on a handcart & rolled it from the garage into our house. We even built a ramp so it could roll up the steps.

Getting the Bathtub up our Narrow Stairs

We thought about trying the hand cart method up our stairs but were nervous that we might not be strong enough to get it up step by step. We bought a power puller with a hand pulley certified up to 2000lbs & strapped the cast iron tub to it & cranked it up our narrow farmhouse steps. This is the same pulley we used to move our very HEAVY hot tub with just 2 people.

Bathtub in the Bathroom

I was very nervous as to how this process would work but in the end we got our new cast iron bathtub into the bathroom & could not be happier with how it turned out. We tiled the shower walls with subway tile & finished our entire remodeled farmhouse boys bathroom.
