Have a bathroom counter that you don't love? Don't worry - it's incredibly easy to replace the counter with just a little bit of time and effort. If you love this project, you can see more easy and affordable DIY ideas on my blog, Love & Renovations.
Start by removing your old counters. Most can be removed with just a pry bar and a hammer. Be sure to have someone knowledgeable with plumbing available to help uninstall the old sink - ours was built-in so we replaced it, but you can always re-use it if it still works for you.
Measure your new countertop and cut to size. We were working with a laminate countertop - obviously, something like stone would be much more difficult to do at home. Laminate and butcher block are both great options that can be cut at home with basic tools. Measure multiple times to ensure a tight fit, then use a circular saw to cut your countertop to size.
Once your countertop is cut to size, do a dry fit to double-check that it works in the space. Once you've got it to the exact right size, make measurements for where the sink will go. Most sinks come with a template you can use to cut the sink hole, so use that if it's available. Use a jigsaw to cut the hole for your sink.
Finally, install the new countertop by simply resting it in place on top of the counter. You can use liquid cement or another adhesive to hold it into place, but that's not necessary in most cases. Re-install the sink, then add your backsplash (if desired) and caulk the whole thing to finish it off!
