I have been dying to paint something with some pink and this was the perfect candidate! I found this great vanity that needed a romantic makeover.
I started by giving it a good cleaning with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water. I let it dry good and started with a couple coats of white.
Next, I took a dirty pink color and covered it in the pink. I didn't need it to cover the whole thing because I would paint over it.
Once I had this mostly pink, I took a great parchment color and painted the whole thing in that. I took a damp rag as the parchment color was drying and wiped it back to reveal hints of the pink, white and wood underneath.
I was happy with that but it needed a little something else. I decided on some grungy, aged looking stripes. I taped off the drawers so that I could paint stripes. I painted stripes in the same pink I had used as my second layer.
Once the stripes were dry, I removed the tape and with a damp rag I wiped off much of the pink leaving faded, grungy stripes.
To give a little more grunge to my romantic striped vanity, I added aging powder in the detail.
I painted the sides and insides of the drawers in pink . I coated the entire thing in a topcoat to assure durability and put back on the original hardware.
The result? A romantic, grungy finish perfect for any bedroom!

Have a question about this project?
Did the table have a polyurethane coat? Did you have to strip the original finish before cleaning? Looks great!
