Have a house filled with outdated golden oak cabinets? I do! It's time to do something about it, and General Finishes Java Gel Stain was the perfect tool to update my cabinets!
I started in the kids' bathroom. Remove all the hardware, find a shady place to stain (I used my garage), and get to work.
The best thing is, with this product, there's no stripping or sanding- simply apply gel stain directly over your old stain or varnish. Mine had that shiny varnish on them- but all I had to do was wipe them down with soapy water.
Look at the difference! I applied three coats of stain and they look like a whole new set of cabinets!
Metallic silver spray paint helped update the hardware, and I added knobs as well. I love how it turned out!

I just finished my last coat of Java stain on both my guest bathrooms and my kitchen table. Love it!!!! Did you sand after every coat of the water base top coat?
