Aaron & Heather's Rustic Renovation

South Cypress
by South Cypress
Aaron and Heather recently experienced the joy and excitement that comes with a first time home purchase, as well as the challenges that come with a total renovation. When they purchased a house built in 1996, the demolition process was half way completed so it was imperative that they finish what had begun. The kitchen had no backsplash and was missing counter tops. The bathrooms had tile removed from the tub and floors. Instead of just patching up the unfinished areas, they decided to completely redo these areas to their own style and configuration.
Custom Order Oak Flooring from South Cypress
The first area of the home Aaron and Heather wanted to renovate was the master bedroom and ensuite. Some of the walls were not originally positioned in the best configuration, so they moved some around to create a true master suite. The bedroom was opened up to bring in tons of natural light, and a hallway with his and hers closets was built to lead to the master bathroom.
The couple's main challenge was pairing Heather's love for things timeless and rustic with Aaron's modern and minimalist style. In the master bedroom they had a custom barn door built which leads into their closets and bathroom oasis.
One of Aaron's favorite features is the reclaimed wood farmhouse door that opens up into the bathroom with the reclaimed wall behind the tub. Heather's? The chandelier in the bathroom. With all of the wood accents, it creates a great balance of femininity and masculinity.
Shower features 5th Avenue Subway Tile
If there is one product that is able to encompass the styles of timeless and modern simultaneously while matching almost anything, it is white subway tile. With chrome fixtures and a dark grout color, the subway tile really makes a impact.
Bathroom floors feature Segato Riverwood
Aaron and Heather wanted to continue the "wood look" into the bathroom but didn't want it to compete with the hardwood leading in from the master or the wood surrounding the tub. The perfect solution was a lighter wood look tile, Segato Riverwood in color "Savio". This rectified porcelain tile is able to create the aesthetic they were going for while also meeting the requirements that are a bathroom floor.
When it comes to renovations, Heather says she learned a lot from the experience offers some great advice:

"Never ever ever ever tell the contractor that you will do the painting. To me, that seemed simple: paint a room or two that I wanted to change in color. However, when the construction happened, a lot needed to be painted, even rooms that weren't involved so definitely leave the painting to the experts! Another thing, whatever the estimated completion date is, just know that it will take longer. We were told three weeks and it took three months."
Aaron and Heather found much of their inspiration from Pinterest and the representatives at South Cypress were able to source the products to create her dream look. For tips on designing a new space Heather says,

"Keep it simple and clean. I always say to keep it neutral so that you won't tire of it quickly. For the items that are more "permanent", choose things that are timeless, but include color within your accent pieces that can easily be changed."
Based on how great Aaron and Heather's home turned out, we think it will provide "Pinspiration" to others for their projects! Be on the lookout for Part 2 of this renovation featuring the kitchen and dining room!
