How to Organize Sportswear on a Shelf

I have several workout clothes. Depending on the occasion, I have a few types. Some for summer. Others for winter when I need to have an extra lining because of the frigid temperatures. But, organizing them on two small shelves has been tricky. I only had these two shelves for these items. My walk-in closet is pretty small, and I share it with my husband. After organizing these shelves, I feel so much better when I need to find something to wear. I hope this inspires you to organize these items.

BEFORE SHELVES: This is what it looked like before. While it was somewhat organized and divided, I couldn't find things when I needed them. It was so frustrating.

ADDITIONAL BEFORE CLOTHING: If you wonder why there was an empty spot on the shelves, I forgot to take a picture of these leggings and shirts in that area. And, when I took them off, they were a mess, and I did not want to refold them all to put them on the shelf just for a picture.

I went through and got rid of several of these items that were either damaged, not worn, or that I was not too fond of. On my blog (sabrinasorganizing.com), I share a sheet that talks about getting rid of clothing questions to ask yourself. Feel free to stop by and check it out.

I heard about these a while ago and wanted to try them, but I did not want to use them for bulky items like sweaters because I did not think they would work. So, instead, I decided to try them for gym clothes.

I also got a folding clothes system. This folds the sportswear exactly the size of the EZStax organizing system.

To fold a shirt, you need to lay the shirt flat facing down; then, fold the sleeves and bottom to match the edges of the folding system.

Then you fold one side, then the other.

Then, you flip the front of the shirt over and press down. It's that simple.

I slide each item on top of one EZStax sheet. Then I stack them together and place them on the shelves.

Then, I used my label maker and labeled the areas: Sports bras, long exercise leggings, capris/short leggings, and exercise tops. And that is it. These two shelves now hold every season's workout wear. YAY!

Now, keep in mind that I have to fold these shirts this way so they will stay compact and stackable. This part takes a little adjusting in my laundry folding process. I have a table that I can lay out the folding system to help me.
