I had a great time renovating this Airbnb condo I own (just 3 miles to Walt Disney World). Guests seem to love the themed rooms and it was easy to do! Here are the tips I picked up on how to easily transform a plain bedroom into a Harry Potter themed room.

BEFORE PHOTO:

Here's how this bedroom looked when we started the room. It was so bland, and the palm tree bed covering made it look like this condo belonged in a dingy coastal motel rather than a cool Orlando condo.

Step 1. Create an Environment with Wallpaper.

Rather than painting the flat walls, or leaving them white, I wanted to give the room texture and depth. The easiest way to do this was with wallpaper. Here you can see how easy it is to add to the wallpaper. So much so that my 15 year old son did it. Just roll the paste on and then apply the wallpaper. (You can remove little bubbles my sticking them with a straight pin)

Step 2. Add color with Bedding.

In order to create the Harry Potter feeling, I looked at the colors that would create brightness and give the Wizard's feel. Red and yellow seemed perfect. Here's a picture of the bedding I was washing and planning to add to the room.

I also ordered some pillowcases that brought out the red/yellow and also showcased the 4 "houses" of the Wizarding World.

Step 3. Add artwork and details.

I went online and purchased one poster that helped me tie the room together. I also found a great cheap trick--I printed out pictures of the Harry Potter characters and placed them in simple Dollar Store frames. I hung one or two and left one on the nightstand. This made it look like I was truly in a Wizard's room and that this wizard is friends with the other Hogwarts students.

Another great detail was adding a wizard's robe to a hook by the door. Like a little wizard had come home from a long day and hung it up there waiting for the next adventure.

Almost done!

Here you can see the room coming together. The walls look great, as do the beds, new fan, and the wall coverings. But I really still didn't like the old green carpet.

Finished Harry Potter Themed Wizard room.

We replaced the old carpet with new luxury vinyl plank flooring (under $2 per sq ft) and this made the room look and feel cleaner and more modern.

You can see the little bit of an added touch with the Wizard robe hanging on a hook when you enter the room. It's like you've stepped in to a true Wizard's room.

I hope you enjoyed this room transformation! View my other posts or the decor and staging section of my website to see the transformation of a Disney Princess room and other projects.

Love how it turned out. No more drab sterile room. Love the princess room too.
