Antique Serpentine Dresser With Mix and Match Pulls

1 Material
Never lose heart if you cannot find matching pulls. I often tend to use a couple of varieties on a piece, and this stunning mahogany serpentine tall chest is a perfect example.
I refinished the case and rails with antique white and lightly sanded the drawer faces and top to stain them a rich early american color. I coated them with gloss polyurethane to let those babies shine.
I only had a couple of the original bail pulls so I improvised. I used the original knobs on the top drawer.
Then, after searching everywhere for the proper size bail pulls to no avail (antique pulls are oddly sized plus being serpentine didn't help the fit), I dug into my stash of misfits.
I alternated the drawers with the two different styles and painted them oil rubbed bronze to unify all of them.
I think it turned out eclectic, fun and still period appropriate and classy.
In fact, from a distance, you cannot even notice they aren't the same. So be free and creative and pull together some variations of pulls when you are short on options.
Suggested materials:
  • Chalk paint, polyurethane, stain, sanding, oil rubbed bronze, drawer pulls
