Be a mermaid and make waves with Dixie Belle Paint Company's newest color Mermaid Tail! Mermaid tail is inspired by the legendary creatures of the ocean. This color gleams just like a mermaids beautiful shiny scales. An array of greens and aquatic blues blend to make this unique and highly requested color. Perfect for a pop of color in any room or on any piece of furniture. Pair this color with a glaze for a true Mermaid glow!
I started off by cleaning the surface my dresser fully, Dixie Belle sales a cleaning product called WHITE LIGHTNING CLEANER, it comes in a 8 oz. You mix 2 TBS in 1 Gallon of hot water. It is great for cleaning and prepping kitchen cabinets and furniture before painting.
Before jumping in the deep end, I wanted to do a test spot to see how Dixie Belle Paint adheres and how it looks after it dries completely. In this picture you can see the dry (R) vs wet (L) paint.
I was first attracted to Dixie Belle Paint because it was formulated with high quality ingredients while taking out the need for sanding or priming! Sanding and priming were two big factors that held me back in the past, but not anymore with Dixie Belle Paint it is the Easy Peasy Paint!
Products listed; One 8 oz jar of Mermaid Tail, One 4 oz jar of Van Dyke Brown Glaze, One 4 oz jar of Copper Bronze Glaze, One 8 oz jar of Satin Clear Coat. Also used 2, 2" Chip Brushes, which are totally awesome for creating a 'wood grain' texture!
Working my way down the dresser, I chose to paint the sides and top first before moving onto the face of the dresser drawers because we as painters tend to get better as you get going, so if you mess up at first your mistakes won't be on the front face of the dresser!
I was very impressed by Dixie Belle Paint, it really does go on smooth as butter! It is very forgivable, very friendly, and it's self-leveling therefore when applied properly and good and wet, the paint levels out brush marks as it dries! It's Awesome!
Dixie Belle Paint is also very easy to clean up, I ended up getting it on my floor (because who wants to use a drop cloth) I cleaned it off the tile with Multi-purpose cleaner. Windex also works wonders for cleaning fresh or dried paint off some surfaces.
I had also debated when I started painting what to do with the hardware. I decided to paint right over them, inspired by others who have used Dixie Belle Paint to paint over their hardware! I was so impressed that the paint adhered with no problems at all, and dried just like it did on the wood!
Dixie Belle Paint dries quickly, most areas dried enough to touch within 15 minutes! I painted one coat, YES ONE coat with ONE 8 oz jar! I was WOWed that Dixie Belle Paint has such good coverage and I painted the whole dresser with one jar! So awesome!
I chose Dixie Belle Glazes in Van Dyke Brown, and Copper Bronze because most of my other furniture is already a dark stain. Adding the glazes was a very fun process, it allowed the details to POP right out, giving it a more distressed look and pulling it back into the color scheme of the rest of room.
I applied the glazes with the 2" Chip Brush as well, my focus with the glazes was the boarder the frames of the drawers, so I lightly brushed the glaze around the outside of the sides, top, and edges of raised area the drawers. I painted the glazes separate, the Van Dyke Brown first, and the Copper Bronze on top!
Here is the Dresser with Van Dyke Brown Glaze, before the Copper Bronze was added!
I absolutely loved what the Copper Bronze did to the dresser, it emphasized the Mermaid Tails unique hue with a beautiful shimmer that is perfect for any Mermaid! It also gleams beautifully in the sun! A fun, unique transformation to a boring old dresser! :) I finished the dresser with one coat of Satin Clear Coat, to give the whole surface a nice Silky smooth water-resistant layer of protection!

It wasn’t mentioned but did you wipe some of the glaze after applying?
