This was a crazy beautiful Art Deco dresser that I found locally. I really wanted to embrace the veneer, but thought that it needed something 'more'.
The piece had several problem areas; particularly missing trim and the veneer had been sun bleached in areas. I'm not a great fan of stripped veneer, and so I knew I wanted to change that. My object was to embrace the good, hide the not so good.
Choosing the image! I'm in love with John William Waterhouse. Most of my image transfer pieces involve his work. This painting I love. It's incredibly feminine, so it would be a perfect match for the dresser. And the colors are just sublime.

I decided to do a French Polish on the wood. Incredibly time consuming, but the end result is so worth it. Here you see that I have painted over the stripped veneer. Using Pure & Original Classico in Skin Powder, and about five different glazes. I wanted it to have a 'watercolor' appearance.
And gold leaf.
While the image transfer is the main focus, I could do detail work all day.
This piece sold within 30 mins of posting it on my Facebook page. It's a fabulous piece. It was a fabulous piece to begin with. I can't bring myself to paint over beautiful veneer - I know my limits, and if I can't 'improve' on the original finish then I put the paintbrush down. But I love the combination of wood and paint.

I just happened to find you and I am blown away. I've been hand painting furniture for over 35 years and just started using some image transfers. May I ask how you get these large color transfers? I read you can only use laser transfers on engineers paper and every place I call can only make them in color about 17 inches by 26 or something close to that. I am mesmerized by your work!
