The old dresser needed to go. Looked BIG and BULKY and not fitting my style. So I attempted my VERY FIRST big furniture redo. What a learning experience it was, but for my first time, it's pretty decent. Hubby says he can live with it now.
This is the new updated dresser. Isn't it cute~ Now that it's back together though,

I WILL be updating the hardware, as a piece was missing to begin with.
This is the before picture. It felt big and bulky and back in the 80s, which I'm sure it was because it's a hand me down from a long time ago. Needed a little love.
ok, maybe SOME of you like this hardware, but it reminds me of the King and Queen era, or maybe when they fought with horses and swords. I don't know, but just wasn't doing it for me.
Took the hardware off, and the peek a boo backings off, and (see next picture) look what I found.....
All kinds of pieces in those peek a boo cabinet drawers. Lots of ways I can go with these.
I painted the dresser drawers. I used a chalk paint and the color was called "Vintage", a light blue color.
Now that drawers were done, onto the cabine doors. They turned out nice.
Put it back together, and painted the cabinet slats the same color as dresser and the peek a boo's behind it a stained brown. It's what I did to the top also. Originally I had started using a chalk paint silver for top and peek a boo's but it just turned out to light. This dresser needed some contrast. I also scratched it up a bit to get that shabby chic look.
a couple close up of the scratching off. Color of this picture is off though, because it really is a light blue.
Close up of peek a boos.
Last but not least, this was the top before. Pretty sad shape. I just used a stain and satin gloss in one. $7.99 at the store. Wasn't sure there was hope for this so didn't want to spend to much money, PLUS being my first attempt at staining.
But it turned out beautiful and I love it. Will use it on some other wood pieces needed a little help. Hope you enjoyed my project....it was a BIG one and fun to learn from.

@Hannah V Thanks so much..what a surprise when I took the cabinet doors apart and found all those pieces. You could literally change it over and over again.

Could you take the bottom left peek a boo and turn it around so it it's going the same direction as the top left. I don't want to be critical but it catches my eye as being off. You did a great job and it looks great!!
