I was given this pretty armoire a few months back, it originally was an awful yellow color. After receiving it I painted it a nice taupe color, but after I finished I didn’t love it and wanted to try and make it look more like a ‘found antique’.

Before

Before

I purchased new knobs for the doors to help achieve the look I was going for.

I also purchased Valspar antique glaze, some foam rollers for applying paint, and screws that I will use to mount the hardware.

To begin, I painted the cabinet with a base color of white. I used ‘bistro white’ by Valspar because it was what I had on hand. To apply the paint I used a foam paint roller.

Applying the glaze

This was a bit harder to take in process photos because I was wearing gloves and they were filthy while applying.

I noticed this product is very workable as long as you do small sections at a time. If you apply to much or don’t like the look, you could remove it with a wet rag while the glaze is still wet.

For my project I used a little brush to get in the detail work, and then using a slightly damp rag I wiped away the excess and used it to imitate ‘wood grain’ by rubbing it lightly up and down and then using another clean slightly damp rag to wipe away any areas that got too dark or had too much antiquing glaze on it.

Here is a look at the glaze once I had finished applying to help you better understand what I was saying about my application.

(you may notice a hole where the old knobs were, originally I was going to put the new ones in he same spot covering the old holes.. but decided to move them at the last minute. I am going to fill the holes😉)

I used the glaze to cover the heads of my screws to match the door pulls I chose.

No pilot holes needed to be drilled for this particular cabinet when hanging the pull, so I just used my drill to hang them.

After

After

Here’s the after. The lighting is a bit hard to get a great photo in this corner. However, I love that it now looks much more like a found treasure rather than a brand new piece of furniture.

(I still need to fill the holes where the old knobs were, but I’m a bit short on time these days.. so I’ll get them filled eventually😂😉)
