A Lego Table Upcycle

So many pieces are tossed in the dump because they are outdated and/or in bad shape. But...I had a vision for this one.

Here is the before. We got it at a ReStore in Michigan for $5.

The body was clean and sanded and then painted with oil based primer and then base coated with Pure & Original Classico in Greek Sky and Black Hills. I just painted right over the leather.

While out of town, I found these cake decorating moulds that would give me just the right look for my lego scene on top.

Using vinyl spackling in the cake decorating mould, I made "stone" corner pieces and a "wood" walkway and attached them to the top with glue.

Then I painted a scene and built a little Lego workshop complete with men and vehicles. The legos are not permanent fixtures, so the kids can remake the scene over and over.

IMAGINE and CREATE were created for the sides by raised stenciling and are painted with a metallic. I used vinyl spackling.

The little white basket will hold their Lego pieces.

The original drop pulls keep it real. My grandkids love this last Christmas - and I must say, their parents were a little blown away when they saw this gift coming out at our family Christmas dinner.
