Yes, I pulled apart an old book of Shakespeare plays... but it was well worth it for this project! All of us love reading and books, but especially our second daughter so this project was really fun!
I don’t have a photo of this before the white, but it took a lot to get here. It was about an oak colour, shiny and had a lot of scratches and gouges... so lots of sanding had to happen before painting. Then, I used a regular white paint to paint the whole piece, until I made a final decision of what it would become.
I made my own modge podge... 1 cup Elmer’s white glue and 1/2 cup of water then mix well.
I have had this old book of Shakespeare plays for many years now... and did actually offer it to many people, but no one wanted it, so why not use it for a project?
I (kind of) carefully ripped out the pages I wanted to use and planned out how many I would need, plus a few extra...
I laid them out to see how this may go...
Then... I “bit the bullet”, so to speak, and got to work! I did one piece of paper at a time, gluing each piece down as I went. I made sure the pages went over the edges, pasting them down and even made some cuts when I had to. After all the pages were on, I did 3 or 4 full coats.
Then it had to dry... really good...
After I let it dry really well, and if I’m honest, it got left a couple weeks because I got busy with life... 🙃 So, here is what I used to seal it up... Between each coat, I used the soft pad to “sand” it... just to make sure it was nice and smooth. I did 3 coats total. (Note... total time for this project doesn’t include dry times between coats.)
Top view...
Loved these “crystal” knobs... they also match another piece of furniture in her room.
And... here it is... I love it and she loves it, so big win! Now... she wants to know if we can do more like this. ☺️ We will see... I have another project idea that may just happen sooner than later...
One last photo... 😊

Is it convenient to seal this work with varnish? That way you can clean it afterwards without ripping the paper?
