I am on a metallic wave and brushed steel was my most recent color choice. Check out how a plain jane nightstand was amped up with metallics.. here are the quick steps but you can click on my blog tutorial linked at the bottom to get further details.. or Pop over to my blog for more free home decor and furniture tutorials.

here is the finished nightstand in its shining splendor, it really does look like brushed steel does it not?

here it is original color and hardware

to be sure the color did not bleed thru and to give a nice deep grey base to the metallic paint I used grey tinted primer first

then applied two coats of the brushed steel metallic paint allowing to dry well between coats. I added black tinted glaze over to give dimension and then sealed with a couple coats of clear tough coat to add durability and add yet more dimension to this steel look

and again here is the finished look, the original hardware looked perfect with it allowing the night stand to be either masculine or feminine

Here are other nightstands I have given makeovers to.

this will look great not only in a bedroom but at a front door, end of a hall or in a living room used as an end table, so many uses for this reloved piece.

I have two nightstands identical to yours and found on Amazon “General Finishes Water Based Glaze Effects” in black. I’m assuming this would be okay. You mentioned you put a couple of clear coats on. Is this the same as shellac or urethane? Did you brush or spray it on?
