Needing to corral clutter and create a workspace for her children, our blog website manager, Lorene helped to design this Hemnes desk hack idea! We are suckers for Ikea hacks. The affordability of Ikea products make them a perfect solution for us DIYers. So, if you have kids that love to create, this is the project for you!

Be sure to check out our video tutorial for complete instructions on creating a workstation for your littles. We offer tips to make your project go smoothly.

Head to Ikea to pick up the Hemnes desk (or two) and assemble to step 6.

Use a Kreg jig to create pocket holes and attach the two top pieces to each other. Cut the new top you've made in 1/2 on a table saw. Sand rough edges to match bevel of desk.

Attach hinges to the back piece of the desk. Be sure to watch the video for proper spacing. Pre-drill holes for screws that will attach hinges to underside of desk top. Install back piece to the desk.

Using what would have been the drawer front, we built a faux-drawer front. Attach it to the underside of the top (with pocketholes and pockethole screws), making sure it is in the right spot. Again, the video show a good explanation of this.

Now, attach the other side of the hinges to the desk top.You can choose to add hardware and line the work areas with contact paper!

And...the finished work area! We cut up a leftover piece that wasn't used to make dividers. What you think of having all those projects contained and out of sight?
