All It Took Was a Little 'Confidence'

Being in the right place at the right time = total furniture score. This beautiful chest was the victim of divorce and neither party wanted to take it with them. I was lucky enough to take it off their hands {ahem} and couldn't wait to get started ReStyling it.
I’m kicking myself now for not taking a better before picture so unfortunately this is the best I’ve got.
Outdated Chest {Before}
It was in beautiful shape, only missing one of the backs for the drawer knobs. Not a problem at all. I knew I could replace it easily from either my stash or a trip to Hobby Lobby. And you don’t exactly have to drag me to Hobby Lobby.

It’s one of the most solid pieces of furniture I’ve seen. I felt I was channeling my dad every time I heard myself say “they just don’t make them like this anymore.” If I had a place for it, this chest would have joined our family for sure.

My painting schedule was extremely full so the chest sat in my garage for awhile. I wasn’t in a rush for it to leave (just in case I found a spot for it.) However, a client came to pick up some dining chairs and fell in love with it for her daughter’s transformation to a big girl room. See, I knew if I was patient this chest would have a happy ending.

The room was fun and fabulous with hot pink & white. My client wanted to add another bright color to the mix and 'Confidence' was perfect!
I started by removing the brass leaf detailing (part of it was missing) and I thought it made the chest look outdated anyway. Since all that beautiful detail was recessed I knew it would be fabulous painted and distressed to highlight.

Once painted with two coats of Confidence, I applied dark wax and subtly distressed the leaf detailing.

The original hardware was a lovely compliment to the new color so I left as-is . My search for new knob backing was successful at Hobby Lobby (did I mention how I love that store). I ended up replacing both so they’d match. I found an iron knob set that was heavy duty and perfect. The color was too dark so I used a gold glaze to tone it down. The end result was pure fabulous.
The new knobs were meant to be!
A little confidence goes a long way, don’t you think? It was a perfect color choice against the hot pink wall. What little girl wouldn’t love this room?
