Dresser Makeover

This chest of drawers was my grandmother’s and I knew I just had to keep it for our guest room! It is a great piece for extra storage and I did a quick refinish on it to blend in with the decor in the room.

Prepare surface

This is the before photo. I lightly sanded the veneer finish but as it was in good condition I didn’t remove it. I would also recommend applying 1-2 coats of primer to fully prepare the surface.

Apply paint

I applied two coats of Annie Sloan chalk paint in Paris Grey using a medium sized brush.

Apply wax

I applied one coat of wax and buffed with a lint free cloth.

Add detail

I then applied some dark brown wax to

the detailing on at the top and buffed this once dry. And also took some sandpaper and lightly distressed the edges of the piece.

Seal and buff

I then applied another coat of wax and buffed well to finish with the lint free cloth. Finally I screwed the drawer pulls back onto the drawers. I reused the hardware since it was black, in great condition and I wanted to keep the original features of the piece.

The end result! I love the new colour and that I was able to keep the original hardware on the drawers. This piece has good memories and not only looks great in our guest room but provides some extra storage space.
