End Tables to Painted Night Stands

Facebook Market place is a dangerous thing......

Anyway. Another cheap find for my airbnb that needed some love in order to work in the space.

Aren't these neat? I have no idea what those handle type thingies on the top are for but I really liked the sleek lines of these tables with added character.

There were some scratches/bubbles on top so I sanded and filled them in with wood glue then gave the whole piece a quick sand.

I wasn't sure if I was going to keep said handle thingies, but at any rate, prep time! I removed the them as well as the bottom shelf and primed two coats.

After two coats of primer and paint it was time to varnish the tops. I had purchased a painting sponge from Country Chic paints but had never used it. It was meant to paint hard areas like spindles or finishes like top coats.

I poured some varnish on a plate, dipped the sponge in and ran it in one direction on the table, one section at a time.

Ok, why have I waited so long to use this miracle of a thing?? It was awesome. So quick, so easy and a great finish. I can control how much I put on and in so much less time then normal. I will never use another foam brush for varnish again!

Since I had the varnish out and was on a high of this amazing tool, I walked around the house on a mission and re did a few more recent pieces with the sponge as well for extra protection. So fast, amazing.

Three coats later....over the course of two days of course.

(follow the drying times for whatever you are using)

The tops looked great! It was also super easy to varnish the legs and second shelf with this sponge.

These are a great addition to this bedroom, I kept the handle thingies on for now. I like the uniqueness of them. We'll see how long that lasts.
