Fit for a Queen

My mother always taught us to take good care of our furniture and since my sister and I learned so well, we were both able to use our childhood furniture with both of our girls. Well, as time went by our children wanted to upgrade to the grown up stuff, I made a bench once before with my husbands childhood twin bed and my sister liked it so much she wanted me to create one for her with our childhood bedroom set. It so happens the original color of the furniture is what she wanted but it needed to be refreshed since cream coloring doesn't stay so cream colored after 40+ years. The fabric she chose goes so well with this piece I think it turned out quite nice. Fit for a queen.

1970's French Provincial twin headboard and footboard from my childhood in great condition,

Split the footboard to create the sides

Built a 2x4 frame and added two front legs purchased at Lowes.

1x3 boards to create seating

fresh coat of chalk paint. Basically the same color just freshened up.

Metallic gold detailing added to freshen up the lines then a clear coat of satin poly to protect the surface of the bench.

Fabric my sister chose from Joanne Fabrics. Great deal she found in the clearance area.

Trim being sewed on the cushion

Pillows are store bought and the bench is complete.

Beautiful, and so nice to be able to keep the childhood memories. One question... You mentioned buying legs at Lowes. Did you think the original (front legs) wouldn't hold the weight of people without snapping? And how did you attach the new front legs? Thanks!

Beautiful, beautiful. I also like the cushion fabric. Did you do your own piping around the seams or is it store-bought?

  Thank you. I have been told that many times. It's finding the time and space as I have to rely on good weather or make a huge mess in my house which the later seems to be the case.
