French Provincial Dresser With a Soft Purple Hue

This french provincial style dresser is a classic. I redid it completely with a modern twist, let's see how.

This dresser was delivered sight unseen and once it was seen I knew there was LOADS of work to be done to make it beautiful again. First step unwrap, remove hardware and get repairs underway.

Scrape the loose finish off

Using my carbide scraper I scraped off any loose original finish on the top and around the edges

Strip the top

Using a chemical stripper the top finish was removed.

Sand it down

Then the top was power sanded when dry using my Dewalt orbital sander and 120 grit sand paper. I also sanded the sides and drawer fronts too to be sure there was no loose old finish.

Rebuild a missing corner

To repair the chipped corner I like to use this PC Lumber epoxy putty. Knead with gloved hand and form in place. Let dry.

Now to paint, to modernize the look a bit but keep the fresh classic neutral feel I chose Fusion Mineral Paint  little stork. This looks like white but has the faintest hue of purple. It will show more purple in different light too but will be perfect for this update.

Two coats were brushed on using Fusion's 2" angled brush.

Add some gold

To keep the classic gold stripe I used a gold Sharpie paint pen.

There are videos for many of these steps on the detailed tutorial linked at the bottom of this post.

Ready for a Princess

It is all painted perfect for a little princess to enjoy.

Very pretty! The scrolly handles are especially unique . . . did you consider painting them a solid color so they stand out more?

Thank you MJ, I chose to keep them very soft and feminine as that was my look I wanted to achieve but for sure there is always the option of painting another color or changing out too ;)
