Whenever I am bored, I spend some time trolling for new project pieces! I happened to spot this entryway table and mirror on “letgo,” and made an offer. I was quite happy when my offer was accepted, and went to pick it up.

Isn’t this an adorable set? Not sure what is on the top...kind of oily. 😷 Never can be sure what you will encounter on a project piece.

First up, sanding! I knew I wanted to stain the top, which requires sanding down to the natural wood. I start with 120 grit sandpaper, and finish with 220 sandpaper for a smooth finish.

I removed the legs to make the rest of the process easier. Personally, I hang on to empty gum containers to hold any nuts, bolts, screws, etc.

I already decided to paint the body and legs of the table, but you can’t just paint over that old finish. So, a light sanding to rough up the old finish will allow your paint a better surface to adhere to.

Legs require sanding by hand. They didn’t need a complete sanding since I plan on painting them.

I stained the top and the drawer fronts. Here you can see the start and finish of one drawer front. I just used a paper towel to apply stain on the small surface. This stain is a blend of weathered oak and a bit of ebony.

Chalk paint! Using my new Wagner Home Decor sprayer. Let me say, if you plan on painting a lot, it is a great investment.

I gave the wood on the mirror a light sanding, and taped off the mirror to paint.

It took a couple of coats of chalk paint. I like to give it a light sanding with a fine grit (320) grit sandpaper between coats. Once the coverage was right, I finished up with a coat of wipe on poly.

All done! Here you can see the mirror and table. I didn’t hang the mirror as this piece is for sale. This could be an entry way set, a vanity, or even a desk.

How cute?!

Nice end result 😊. I've refinished furniture...what can one hope to ask for when selling these ?

This is lovely. I wonder how it would look if the handles matched the paint?

It looks very nice and very fresh! My opinion, the trim going around the edge of the mirror wouldnt it make the mirror piece pop more with it being stained the same color as the top of the vanity instead of all white?.. But I still like, good job!
