Grey Bamboo Nightstand Makeover

3 Materials
This Thomasville Allegro faux bamboo nightstand came from a garage sale where I purchased it on the cheap. It's the perfect size for a bedside table, but the laminate top and original dull yellow finish had to go.
I began by sanding all surfaces with 150 grit sandpaper. For more information on peeping laminate for painting, visit the link to my blog for detail information.
Next I primed, always an important step when creating a durable, smooth finish. I also sanded the primer super smooth once it dried and before I painted.
I sprayed this piece with my HVLP gun. It made getting all of the bamboo details much easier and rid the finish of brush marks since I didn't brush by hand. I also sprayed on 2 cats of a satin, water-based topcoat for protection.
Sanding in between coats gave me a smooth final finish. Using a vacuum and damp cloth also help to get all sanding particles off before the next coat and keeps them out of the finish. I also added a brass knob that pairs well with the grey paint color. I kept the knob that came on the nightstand for another Thomasville bamboo piece I have (a dresser) that was missing one of the knobs. Find out the paint color I used on my blog.
