Another Simple Makeover for a Curbside Rescue

This is not a biggie project, but a "meant-to-be" project, and one of those "ugh, I am too busy and too lazy" project, lol!
I found this hollow drum like wrought iron side table(i think) by the curb on one wet and cold day last winter. It was obvious that it was a 2 tier table and the tops were probably broken and that's why it was abandoned(now, someone came along and told me that this is a plant stand :)). I kept it like this since then....and then one day, for the heck of it, I measured the diameter of the tops...and I happened to go to Michael's and checked out their mirror section, and voila! What are the chances??! They were carrying beveled mirrors with the same diameter!!:14 inches to be exact!
This was very dirty
I cleaned this with Clorox wipes. It's probably not the best to use it on the metal, but it was near me. Yes, too lazy...
But there is hope.
The top tier is cleaned and it is so much better
These are the mirrors I found at Michael's. I couldn't believe that they had the perfect size.
It even comes with those 4 little feet to give some cushiony protection.
Then hubby and I got to work; hubby cut 2 "discs" for the top from the craft lumber stash we had.
I sanded them down and slightly rounded the edges.
Ahh...they are sitting nicely.
I gave a coat of primer and then one coat of glossy black paint on one side where the mirrors will be placed, and 2 coats on the other side. I just did this in case of any breakage of the mirrors.
This side table is actually going to be sitting next to my hubby's captain's chair where he usually rests after work. It will hold his drinks and books and it will be perfect.
Without the mirrors. Do you see his chair? :)
I simply placed the mirrors. I am too busy and too lazy to refinish the body. I know this post will drive some perfectionists out there crazy, lol, but since this was going to be for my hubby and he was so eager to have it by his side...and he didn't care whether the body is refinished or not...oh well...one less thing for me, yay!
You can see my painted Egg project in the reflection. :)
Just for the heck of it, I wanted to stage it to give some feminine touch. Those glass tops deserve a bit of glam touch before hubby claims it all, haha.
I used the plywood and paint I had already from the previous project.

I guess I could have waited for the better coupons from Michael's to keep the cost under 10.00, but...oh well, hubby just couldn't wait for another day. :P

14.39 is what I paid for 2 mirrors but I think you can wait for their 40% coupon and keep the cost even lower for for your future project.
Suggested materials:
  • Plywood   (Stash from home)
  • Beveled mirrors, 14"   (Michael's)
  • Black glossy paint   (Previous project)

How tall is this. I was just wondering because your staging photo looks like it's on a counter. Or not. Then I started to imagine using it as a tiered food tray of some sort because wasn't there some kind of bucket handle on it? But I really love it and the fact that it was so easy
