This little chest doesn't have the character of the little side table I recently finished, but because it has with stood the wear and tear of 'my three son's it has sentimental value. I'ts just a plain little 5 drawer chest, has been stained and as the first photo shows a paint job that I just wasn't crazy about. I found the mirror at a little thrift shop for only $5.00 and it turned out to be a perfect fit.
Trying out some knobs in the 'before' photo. The large round glass knob....I LOVE. Just have to find out the right little piece to use them on.......If you have that perfect piece, send it my way!!
I started out by just lightly sanding the black/turq finish and sanded the top to bare wood. I gave all the drawers and the chest a coat of just a random color of grey to get a lighter base coat to help cover the black.
Using the same colors and layering process I used on the "I'd Rather Be In Paris...side table" I worked on the drawers and chest, while it dried I stained the top using the same dark gel stain and poly protective finish for the top.
The top drying, this poly finishes dries so fast......
After visiting two Hobby Lobby's, one in my area and one in Rogers, AR, I was able to find the same knobs I used for the side table. I had to paint them white to get what I really wanted. Quite quick and easy to dry brush them.
The only carved detail to highlight is on the mirror, again I used white chalk paint to get the same effect as the carving on the side table....
Close up of paint the colors in the layers of paint I used.
One more project finished. It may not have the "cuteness" of the side table, but this little chest has seen a lot of little boy clothes go in and out of it, so it has to stick around until someday they can decide what happens next to it. And yes, middle son and his bride are in the photo from 2012 and now they have 3, 3 and under. Busy life!! And another plus of giving this a makeover, the drawers are now cleaned out and organzied....

I think I asked this question in your side table project You are using Annie Sloan paint color names as reference only, but you color match them? Is that correct?

Well, I just sort of layered and blended two colors, no real plan how to do what I saw in my mind. I have a piece to start soon and hope to recreate how I painted my dining room table and then I think I should do a pop of color. But, I know I tire of those pops of colors so I go back to being a more “neutral” color furniture girl. Decisions, decisions....
